It was the surf song that debuted at No. 1

Jan and Dean were the first to hit a surf song with "Surf City". The song is about a fictional surf community where two girls are for every one boy. The song was written by Brian Wilson and Jan Berry and became the first surf song to reach the top of the charts. For Woodies, the song was the soundtrack to their first movie, The Woodies Cars.

It was very expensive

Before the woodie era came to an end, cars were made in smaller numbers, but there was a certain elegance to them. These cars were built using traditional car production techniques, like wiring and installing seating. They were very expensive to make and never became mass-produced. Woodies were available only in certain states, such as Texas and parts of Southern Europe. They were popular in the United States but they didn't gain much popularity because they were so poor.

It was dangerous

Woodies were America's most beloved car in the 1930s. However their design was susceptible to problems. Their large size and wood bodywork meant they needed constant maintenance, and the wood swelled and cracked when exposed to the elements. In addition, the cars' wooden doors weren't strong enough to protect their occupants against the harsh climate. Although the style didn't die, eventually the car industry removed wood from production.

It was a parody on station wagons

A wood-bodied automobile is a parody of a station wagon. Many wood-bodied vehicles were painted or stained to mimic fine wood furniture. The wood theme continued in the interior door panels and dashboards as well as on the rear tailgate. Woodies also were popular in the 1940s, when many American movies featured them. Today, woodies can be found on American car lots. These weren't the only types wood-bodied automobiles made at that time.

It was restored after the surfers were done

A working group of stakeholders conceived a plan to restore Surfers' Point in 2010. Faced by many competing interests, the group had the task of negotiating and securing funding. The community came together around the idea of creating a public space so that everyone could enjoy both the sea and beach simultaneously. The project was funded by grants and is now a popular place for surfers and visitors alike.

FAQ

Does it matter where I go to college?

No, not really. In terms of getting into the auto industry, there is no distinction between colleges. Some schools have better programs than others, so you might want to look elsewhere if your goal is something more specialized.

How can I prepare to become a mechanic apprentice?

Understanding what you're getting into is crucial. You must understand the workings of cars. This will allow you to be prepared for your first day at work.

It is also important to be able to fix small problems like broken lights or tires.

This will teach you how to diagnose problems and fix them yourself.

It is also important to know how the different pieces fit together in order to put them together again.

Finally, you need to be able to safely and efficiently use tools.

These are all things that will make you a competent mechanic.

What are the qualifications for an automotive technician

High school graduation or GED is required with excellent grades in English and math. You must also be able to read, and write. Before you can start working, you will have to pass a written exam and take a series practical tests.

What jobs are available for car mechanics?

There are three major areas of employment that car mechanics work in:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

Most people think of this as the first step to becoming a mechanic. This is the best way to get started. Either you can work in a shop that is owned by another person or start your own business.

If you choose to work at a store, you need to join a union. After you are accepted to the union, you will receive training from it.

Once the training is completed, you can start working.

Registering with the government is required if you intend to open a garage. After you register, you will be required to meet specific standards.

After you have registered, you will be issued a license to operate your garage.

Your license will allow you to sell spare parts and do minor repairs. It won't permit you to fix serious engine problems.

You will be expected to sell spare parts and also offer guidance and advice to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics that specialize in one aspect of the vehicle. They may be trained to replace or repair tires, or they may specialize in brakes.

However, dealerships may also employ general mechanics who are able to handle all aspects related to car repairs.

These positions may require applicants to complete specific training before being allowed on the job. This allows employers to select the most qualified candidates for their roles.

Some dealerships will hire graduates straight from college. These graduates have no difficulty learning about cars because they already know the basics and principles of mechanical engineering.

Independent garages

Independent garages do not belong to any dealership. Instead, independent garages tend to concentrate on providing high-quality services.

Independent garages don't have to be associated with any particular company. This allows them to offer higher wages. Because these jobs don't have to be associated with any company, they can generally offer better wages than dealerships.

However, independent garages do not necessarily offer better workplaces. Many owners prefer to control their businesses themselves, rather than delegating it to employees.

So you may find yourself working long hours without having any say over what happens during the day.

Additionally, you should expect to earn lower wages if employed by a dealership.

It's possible to switch between jobs. Ask your employer if you would like to work as a mechanic at a dealership.

Alternativly, you can apply directly to the garage owner if you are interested in working at an independent garage.

Finding a new job is not always easy. Many other factors can also influence the amount you earn.

This could include the type of vehicle that you are working on and whether or not you charge an additional for labor.

What qualifications does a truck mechanic need?

You don't have formal qualifications for this role, but you are very experienced working on trucks and engines. Your knowledge is valuable as you are able to quickly diagnose problems and work efficiently.

Also, your knowledge of diesel technology will be a benefit as you can help us understand which parts are needed for our vehicles.

Are you a mechanic or a technician? Can I study part time?

It is not essential, but it is helpful. Employers prefer candidates who have completed a full degree. It shows that your efforts have been put in and you have succeeded.

This doesn't necessarily mean you can't continue to work while studying. Many universities permit students to take courses during the summer holidays, and then finish their studies in the fall. Students can also take classes part time throughout the academic year.

How To

How to be an Automotive Technician

A technician who works on vehicles is an automotive technician. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. He/she assists customers in fixing their cars, trucks or motorcycles. An automotive technician must have the ability to quickly diagnose and fix problems.

To become an automotive technician, a person must first earn an associate's degree from a vocational college. After completing the program, he/she must pass ASE certification. ASE stands in for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. There are two parts to the ASE certification exam. The first section tests your mechanical skills, while the second tests your practical knowledge. You must attend one of the authorized testing sites to take the test. These locations can be found online or at your local auto dealer.

A candidate must pass the state exam after passing the test to become an automotive technician. The process will vary depending on where an applicant lives. For example, some states require candidates to attend a training course, while others allow them to study independently. Some states require technicians to be licensed immediately upon receiving their license. Other states wait until they have been employed as automotive technicians for at least six month.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeship programs typically last three to four years. The apprenticeship program teaches students how to change oil, adjust brakes, replace tires, clean spark plugs, inspect engine compartments, and perform routine maintenance. Some students learn how to do advanced repairs, such as installing air filters, replacing shocks, repairing engines, and replacing transmission fluids. Many schools offer classes during regular hours. However, some schools offer evening classes if needed.

Once a student finishes his/her apprenticeship, it is possible to become a Journeyman. Journeymen can spend up to five years learning how major systems work, including transmissions, differentials. They also learn how to adjust steering gear and suspensions. They are also taught how to troubleshoot electrical components and remanufacture engines. Because they have a good understanding of the job and what customers expect, many employers prefer to hire journeymen.

If a candidate successfully passes the required exams and receives a license, he/she might want to consider starting his/her own shop. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there were nearly 1.7 million jobs available for automotive mechanics in 2010. That number was expected to grow by 18 percent from 2009 to 2020. A candidate who plans to open a shop should expect to spend many thousands of dollars on equipment and supplies.

Automotive technicians' salaries depend on many factors such as the employer, whereabouts, education level and experience. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. A high school diploma is all that's required to earn approximately $21,000 annually. A bachelor's degree is equivalent to approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with bachelor's degrees earn approximately $27,000 per year. And those with master's degrees made around $32,000 per year. Salaries are increasing so that a professional earning less than $30,000 could expect to make $40,000 in a few years.
